Great Price Sony KDL-52Z5100 for $1,589.00

Sony BRAVIA Z Series KDL-52Z5100 52-Inch 1080p 240Hz LCD HDTV Review

Well I've owned several TV's before this one but I always wanted the "gilded" Sony Brand TV so I decided to take the plunge and buy a Z-Series. The Z-Series was supposed to be their highest end model outside of the XBR series and it had all the latest bells and whistles. The new features are GREAT. I love Amazon and Netflix being right there native to my television but many of the other channels offer very little content and Netflix still has problems, often dropping connection or telling me that I do not have the rights to view the content even though it's playing fine on all my other devices.

Now to the most important part, While the Bravia Engine 3 offers a beautiful picture this set had very uneven backlighting and from what I've read from other customers this seems to be a common problem. The corner of the screen has a significant backlight bleed and it's especially noticeable during dark scenes. There is also some cloudiness of backlight bleed in other parts of the picture. I was very dissappointed about this considering this is a Sony flagship TV. If I had bought a Sanyo or an Insignia for a discount price it would be one thing but this is supposed to be the big cheese. It's a good TV and I am not returning it but it's still a little dissapointing that I paid a 5 star price and got a 4 star product. If Sony would fix the backlight issue this would be a 5 star review, but alas I am giving it a 4 for this reason alone considering the Netflix feature was added after I made the purchase, so I can't really complain about a complimentary feature.

Electronics-expo worst customer service with TV - P. PATEL -
I bought this TV from Electronics-expo and TV was defective. VGA would not detect my computer. I tried 6 different computers and 5 different cable which worked on every other monitor I have. There are stuck pixels on my TV and Electronics-expo refused to even listen to my problem. Overall I would rate this transaction as worst. I feel I was cheated by Electronics-expo and to some extent by Amazon. I made this transaction trusting Amazon...

It just stopped working - A. Snow -
We bought this TV from Amazon in October of 2009 and just four months later the color drained from the picture, faded to black and shut it self off. We turned it off, unplugged and plugged it back in, nothing worked. Amazon refused to replace the defective product. Amazon told us they have a 30 day policy and just couldn't or wouldn't help. We called Sony the technician who ran us through a bunch of steps and then decided to send us to a service center. Although it is still under warranty, the service center estimated a 2 month turn around. On top of that, the service center needs a Sony case number, something the technician failed to give us. Now we have to call again and get one. When you spend this much on a product you expect a little better service. Don't buy this TV and don't expect any customer service from Amazon or Sony if you have problems.

Outstanding LCD. Beyond my expectations. - Craig Weiss -
Pros: Superb picture quality, non-reflective screen, easy menu system.

Cons: None of any consequence. If using more than one HDMI connection there's only one on the back and the rest are on the side so the wires are visible unless using a port saver.

Summary: After comparing about a dozen high def televisions the Sony Bravia series stood out. We needed a non-reflective screen, which eliminated all plasma's and most Samsungs. But even compared to the Samsungs, this television was as good or better.

In the stores we couldn't tell any difference between the lower priced Bravia V and the XBR, which has the same "engine" as the Z. Through Amazon, we couldn't pass up a deal on the Z and it exceeds our expectations.

On its own, the sound is passable, but using 5.1 surround it's outstanding, although no credit to the television. Never having owned a flat screen before, we're pleased friends and family who do praise the picture quality.

Navigating the bells and whistles can be a bit confusing but it's pretty user friendly, and the manual is helpful.

Please refer to CNET's review of the XBR for a more technical description of this set (they're essentially the same in many respects) and other user reviews do a better job than me in this area.

Bottom line is that after two months it's still a pleasure, sometimes exciting to watch this set. HDTV pops, especially sports, and movies are sometimes breathtaking in their clarity and color representation.

Great Price Sony KDL46W5100 for Too low to display

Sony BRAVIA W-Series KDL-46W5100 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV Review

Up until I purchased this LCD TV (SONY BRAVIA 46W5100), I have studied all the options for months before buying this 46 inch TV.
It came down to three manufacturers LCD TV's: SONY, SHARP or Samsung for best picture quality, design and sound.
Conclusion: SONY BRAVIA is the BEST and superior in quality!!! (Although SHARP should get all the credits for developing LCD TVs all together, but seemed to slow down in further developing the technology. On the other hand, Samsung keeps copying everything what SONY and SHARP have done to LCD TVs, Samsung is STILL few years behind in technologies to SONY and SHARP manufacturers.) While Samsung is only interested in thinning down the flat screen TVs, all other manufacturers are directing their technologies in advancing the picture quality and sound. I personally do not care about thinner LCD/LED TV, but better picture quality and sound. I think Samsung's R & R Division should better reconsider the direction they are going.

I found the Sony 46W5100 more attractive in design and had a slimmer bezel, plus was not shiny black or reflective like the one with Samsung. This model has all the most up to the minute Sony technical features and a superb picture. Sound quality is perfectly fine despite some reviews. I picked the W series because of the internet connectivity and TV Guide on screen, since I use an antenna for over the air channels. Really neat features like streaming video movies from Netflix and Amazon, YouTube and CBS.
Some are free, some you have to rent of course. Just plug in an ethernet cable from your router. You need at least 1.5M speed DSL. Got a great buy from Amazon, it was delivered in 7 days after I placed the order. Took about 10 minutes to unpack and set it up, and it worked just great right out of the box. Remote is uncomplicated and easy to use. I am very pleased with this TV and will highly recommend it to anyone. However if you are not interested in connecting it to the internet or using TV Guide On Screen, then consider the Sony V series for a few hundred dollars less, although it has the Bravia 2 processor (vs Bravia 3 in the W5100) and has slightly lower contrast ratio. Also the W has a more attractive bezel design.

Great TV - Steven Wilke - Texas
This is a great TV. I got this with a Blu-Ray player for pretty cheap and it was definitely worth it. the picture is so much better than my old TV. The only thing I don't like about the TV is the inputs on the side, there is only 1 HDMI on the back, and 3 on the side. I really think that should be opposite. Other than that this TV is awesome!

Love it - M. Martin - CO
Initially got the 40 inch but returned for the 46 inch (wife's idea even). Both were very nice, but of course we love the 46 inch size and picture quality. got a great deal that included a PS3 player. Blue-ray videos pop.

Hooked up the internet via cat5 cable and signed up for Netflix. We have not had one issue with streaming the video from Netflix - very smooth and already have 47 movies in our streaming queue!

Not too excited about the widgets at this time. Selection and usefulness is limited.

Great Buy - Jose Lechuga -
Picture and sound are excellent. I had a Samsung before I got the Sony and you see the quality difference between the two. I would recommend this TV to anyone out there.

Very bad experience with sound quality - Murali N. Kalluru - NJ
I bought the product in Dec 2009 and noticed that creepy noise on the first day after hooking the telivision.I thought it may be temporary, but realized that it is very much noticiable at nights when it is quite. It was very annoying and it was a great disappointment.I walked in to the store and explained the situation, they told me that the TV is not in stock and asked to come back after 2 weeks.I went to the store and they told me that there is only one piece left out.Took my set and the techs checked the TV by hooking, in less than the time I expected they told that there is a grounding problem for the speakers and they replace the TV.

Its just a day again and I will observe. For now the new set is working fine.

For activating enhanced features it asked me to update the software. After updating to the latest software I cleary observerd the difference in sound(The output of the sound became low).I have no idea for now what made this.
I am going to contact Sony. The only reason for buying the Sony product is that standard of the quality. It can not beat my old Panasonic TV(Bulky CRT TV).

Also I agree with other reviewers, the home page for activating the internet link is crappy,I wonder why they can not spend a small amount of money for maintaining a good site.

Check Out Sony BRAVIA Z Series KDL-46Z5100 46-Inch 1080p 240Hz LCD HDTV for $1,299.00

Sony BRAVIA Z Series KDL-46Z5100 46-Inch 1080p 240Hz LCD HDTV Review

After much research and debate, we decided to purchase the Sony Bravia Z KDL-46Z5100 46" 240 HZ LCD TV through Amazon. We went with Vann's. The TV arrived several days ahead of schedule (Vann's did their part) but we ended up having to wait an additional day for delivery because the Fed Ex driver obviously did not want to deliver this big, bulky box on a wet, extremely windy, stormy day. I waited home all day the day the TV was to be delivered because of the signature requirement for the delivery, only to find at the very end of the day that the driver had arrived at 8:30 that morning, had failed to ring the front door bell and had instead gone to a garage side door (with no bell) and left an attempted delivery notice which proceeded to blow off the door and fortunately land on the porch and stick in the wet snowy slush. If you could see our house you would understand that this choice was an obvious choice to avoid delivery (down a steep driveway and off to the side of the garage when the driver easily could have walked from his truck staight to the front door). I called to reschedule delivery for the next day but was unable to do so because the postage they use with the "free shipping" does not allow you to schedule a delivery time. The following day thinking that they would deliver around the same time of day I was prepared for them in the early AM with a note on the side entrance instucting them to use the front door and to please ring the bell. I again waited the entire day, the TV finally arrived at the very end of the day. Upon arrival, the box was in bad shape, very dirty, torn and water damaged. My heart sank but upon opening the box I discovered that there was a box within a box and the original packing box was in perfect condition! Yeah!
I wasted two work days waiting for the "free shipment" so my advise would be to pay the shipping cost for an upgrade so that you can schedule your shipment delivery time unless you or someone else is home anyway. My lost time was worth much more than the added cost of shipping. Another thing they don't tell you is that Fed Ex and UPS are not supposed to allow you to open a package until you have signed for it. You are told to inspect the package BEFORE you sign, checking for obvious damage and to refuse the shipment if you feel that it is damaged. I got a good driver who bent the rules for me because the box was in such poor condition but you can't count on getting one of the "nice" guys. If I had refused delivery based on the exterior condition of the box, I would have sent back a perfectly good TV and I would have been without my new set for a much longer period of time.
That all having been said, we LOVE the TV! It was a great choice. We were planning to buy a sound system for it but feel that we do not need it. The sound is great. We've been watching the Winter Olympics this week and I have to say, this TV is the next best thing to being in Vancouver! And..we're much warmer!
We were worried that the 46" size would be too large for our very small cozy den but decided to go with it anyway because everyone told us "bigger is better." Absolutely correct! Because it is so thin, it actually takes up much less space in the room than our older model Sony 27" TV did. The room looks larger and roomier! And we have our own personal movie theater. The colors are vibrant and great, the blacks are good and there is no blurring.
We hooked it up ourselves (just us girls) using a Mediabridge Ultra Series HDMI cable that we also ordered from Amazon for .00. Much cheaper than the 0.00 Monster cable that we originally purchased and returned to Best Buy. The hookup was simple and the picture is great!
We definitely recommend this TV! A great set for the price.

Great Set ! - GLENN LEVY - Chicago
I have been eyeing this set for about a year, now was the right time to pull the trigger. The price is about as low as its going to get before this set disappears. I decided to buy it locally after studying all the options, I wanted it delivered without hassle and in home 4 year extended warranty just in case. I got the lowest price online matched at a great store here in IL. Worth paying tax for the peace of mind. I also got a free Blu Ray player with it. I think if you have the option of buying a set locally you should with item like a large TV no offense to anyone who bought online. I almost did. I love Amazom.

Now on to the TV itself, what a great set the picture quality is amazing, with so many options you can get dizzy playing with them all. I just can't say enough how good this set looks. This is my first LCD TV. I had a 34 inch XBR HDTV tube what a huge difference. This set has every option besides WiFi. The remote is easy to use and very responsive. It controls my DVR, AVR, Blu Ray player. It has codes for just about all the brands of equipment you might have in your home theater. It lights up a nice shade of blue if you are in the dark at a push of button. I found that it handles Standard def TV ok, not as bad as some have said, but certainly not wonderfully. I won't be watching too much standard def after viewing high def. It's just hard to go back, it was already that way the last few years on my 34 XBR as it is. I found the off angle viewing better than expected, but like any LCD once you hit the 45 degree or more angle the color starts to shift and fade. still not nearly as bad as it used to be. I found this set not as bad as the Sammies for off angle. I have a desk about 35 to 40 degrees off angle which I like to sit at and watch and it looks very good.

I have the TV hooked up to a Comcast HD DVR, Sony Blu Ray player, and Yamaha home theater receiver. Plus I have xbox 360, PS3, and Wii all hooked up. This set is great for gaming. Each input on each unit is set up and the tv remembers all the settings for each item. I have not had any problems with slow down or artifacing once I tweaked each input for the specific system. This TV handles everything I can throw at it. Even the Wii looks good with ED def with component cables. I am very happy with this TV so far, I have owned it a few days granted, So I will revisit this review in a few months with an update.

In closing I would say now is the time to buy this TV, great price at this point. I looked at many other TVs I did not like as much, Edgelit LED, not as uniform a picture with other problems. Plasma too heavy, not as long a life span, worries about burn in and image retention with so many video games that I own. I looked at other brands, Samsung so many complaints with reliablity, and poor customer service, inputs that just die after a few weeks. Sony just seemed to be the overall leader for less problems, reliability. LCD was the best choice for me. The whole clouding issue with LCD is not an issue for me, I just don't see it that much. If you have a chance to buy this set, at this price point IE sub 00. Grab it up now, I would say bigger is better in this case, so if you have the extra money to go for the 52 version go for it. 46' is still a nice size for an avg room. I just was at my limit for spending. Great set! Go grab one now before they are gone.

Sony KDL46Z5100 - Mike - NJ
I bought the Sony KDL46Z5100 after doing a fair amount of research and having already owned a Sony 46" XBR4 which has incredible picture quality at 120Hz. The unit comes packaged well from Sony and the pedestal is easily installed on the bottom of the unit. This TV is much lighter than the XBR4 and I was able to tackle assembly by myself. It was so easy to set this TV up and I hooked it up to an Onkyo Surround Sound system and Sony Blu-Ray BDP-N460 (this is the unit that lets you connect to the internet through your LAN) player. Within minutes I was up and running with NetFlix watching a movie. The color on this TV is fantastic. I watched a few games to see the difference that 240Hz makes - and it makes a huge difference and you can also change the settings on the TV. Everything is crystal clear and super sharp and there is no blurring that I could notice on fast moving images! There are plenty of jacks on this unit including the nice feature of a LAN Ethernet connection. This is nice if you don't have the capabilities of hooking up to the internet through a Blu-Ray player that has the network features. As part of the setup on the TV you are asked if you want to connect to the home network.

There is a firmware download available for this TV from the Sony website. You can download the 30MB file to your computer and copy it on a USB flashdrive. Although I didn't see any reason to do the firmware upgrade I decided to do it anyway. I downloaded the file from the Sony support site on the Internet and then copied the file to a Sony MicroVault USB flash drive and then popped it in the back of the TV. Almost immediately, the TV recognized the file and provided step by step instructions for the upgrade. It took a total of about 3 minutes to load the file and the TV went on and off about three times with warning screens not to be concerned about the turning on and off. After that, the TV stated the upgrade was done and I was back to watching a great picture. I was told that Sony will also send you the firmware upgrade on a USB device if you don't have a USB drive.

The remote was larger than I expected and has every button imaginable on it. It has a lighted feature which I thought was great so you could see the buttons in dim light. Because the TV is large, if you intend on using the pedestal with the TV, it is recommended that you secure the TV to the stand or wall. I put straps around the base to secure it to the stand that supports the weight of the TV so that children don't accidentally tip the TV over. I bought a set of straps (Velcro with Buckle) at Home Depot for about which I used on another LCD TV with great results. In fact, they worked great and better than some other products advertised over the Internet. They secured the TV firmly in place to avoid any tip overs.

The TV looks great in the gloss piano black and is slimmer than the older model Sony LCD TV's. I hope to have the TV for a long time.

Very Good value - Laura Moose - Seattle, WA USA
This is a great TV. The picture quality is great right out of the box and even better after some adjustments. The low profile design, while not quite as slim as the newest offerings from Samsung, is still very slim without paying a huge premium. This TV has a bigger screen than my previous 42" Panasonic plasma but actually feels smaller in the room. The TV works well with my other Bravia components.
CONS: This TV didn't get 5 stars mainly for nitpicky reasons. First, while the Amazon VOD feature is great, I don't really see the point of the sluggish widgets. I'm not really sure that the online features are worth the price premium. The TV's sound, while OK, is not great. There is only one HDMI jack on the back, the rest are on the side. While this is convenient, it can be ugly. Finally, this TV will not allow the Sony Soundbars to mount on the stand. Soundbars will mount to the W Series and XBR Series but not Z Series.
Overall though, despite these minor flaws, I highly recommend this TV.

Sony BRAVIA V-Series KDL-46V5100 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV, Black Review

I bought this TV a couple of weeks ago after about a month of research, reading others reviews and reading the ratings in Consumer Reports. Whether in HD or standard picture the quality is excellent. Many other reviewers complained of the sound but for me the sound is great. Can turn it up high and I do not get any distortion. Was easy to hook up to my DVD player and cable and the set up and adjustments using the TV menu was very easy. I have always had Sony products and actually considered another brand at first but at the last minute changed my mind and was glad I did. I also got a great price on the TV purchasing right before the Superbowl. I am not a gamer nor do I use the internet through my TV so I cannot comment on that. I also have a window facing the TV and there is absolutely no glare. Overall, I am very pleased with this TV.

Sony Bravia 46" LCD/HDTV - L. Anderson - Miami, FL
Great picture quality. Very pleased with our purchase of the Sony Bravia 46" LCD/HDTV. We also switched to AT&T U-Verse -- with the superb connection (after several tech visits to the outside of the house to re-run the line) there is a distinct increase in the quality on our small TV as well.

Sony Bravia - Thomas Kreminski - Denton, TX
The Sony Bravia is a great television and I bought it at an incredible price. Very happy.

CAVEAT EMPTOR - BEWARE!!! - Jae - Connecticut
My wife and I bought this from Best Buy back around June/July this past year. It started out okay for the first few days then, we started having trouble with the sound. First, it was intermittent where the sound would go in an out. Then, we started having problems where switching from HD to non-HD channels it would go black and we could only get some sound. We thought it was our old receiver we had so, we ditched that started using just the inputs through the TV and its speakers. Overtime it got worse and worse.

To make matters worse (not an Amazon problem) we used Elwin Electronics via Best Buy as the repair and it took them over two months to replace a sound board. They put in a brand new board and, guess what we're still having audio problems. The cable box works great and is a fairly new HD box. The TV is garbage. I should've trusted my instinct and gone with a Samsung. Right now spending a bit more $ and going with the Samsung LED-LCD 46". Stay away!!! (Unless you're looking for a TV with issues).

Sony BRAVIA S-Series KDL-52S5100 52-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV, Black Review

Ok, I'll make this short and sweet. At least I'll try to.
Here: find the positive reviews, and listen to them. Ignore the negative reviews.
Still want to hear more? Fine. I warned you.

I worked for Sony for a few years, and if it wasn't for their inflated pricing, everything in my house would have a Sony logo on it. Then this TV came along.
Here's a not-so-secret suggestion: Purchase a Sony TV around Super Bowl time- you'll combine retailer's Super Bowl sales with the timing of old models clearing out. Seriously, you want to pay 0-600 more to have a 2010 vs a 2009 TV? I want your paycheck.

I worried a bit about it only being 60 Hz for as large as it is, thinking the size would magnify any ghosting or lag. Negative- maybe if I was watching a SD signal over rabbit ears. Hooked this beauty up to an HD satellite signal, and have been watching the NBA All-Star stuff, and fast-paced Olympic events with ZERO lag or ghosting. Sweet.

A couple people commented on viewing angle? Puhleeze. It's awesome.

Ok, news flash: the sound isn't stellar...but it's not really better or worse than other LCD TVs I've owned. And who cares? I have everything hooked up to my receiver. I'm not about to own a 52" TV and not take advantage of the home theater experience.

I didn't think I'd like 2 of the HDMI connections on the side, but I'll admit it's a heck of a lot easier connecting everything when it's mounted on the wall. (Hint: use a Cheetah Mounts APTMM2B Tilt Wall Mount for 32"-55" Plasma and LCD TVs and Displays, it was a great deal).

All in all, I was pleasantly surprised to see the Sony among the least expensive in that size range. Ok, so I got a killer deal, but still! With as nice as this LCD is, it's hard to imagine it being the 'bottom' range of their lineup. It's a Sony TV. Enough said.

I have had this TV for 5 months now and I am thoroughly impressed.

I have my TV hooked up with a cheaper HDMI and the picture quality is great. I upgraded my surround sound to Sony's HT SS360 Bravia Home Theater system. I strongly recommend buying products with Sony's Bravia Sync feature. This enables you to sync all devices and make controlling the system a snap.

This TV is great for HD viewing and Blue-Ray movies. There is even a VGA connection that you can connect to your PC or Laptop.

This TV has plenty of inputs for your game consoles and other devices.

Purchased this for 50 Jan. 2010 and have no complaints. Great picture, good sound, all around easy set up. I was concerned about motion blur as this is not 120hz or more, but no one at our Superbowl party could see any motion issues. The price has dropped so much (was 00 in June) it's a steal. No problems with viewing angles, and we had a packed rooms for superbowl. This 52" is in our FR and provides a good view from all seats. We have 2 96" sofas and a swivel chair all ranging from 9-11 feet away from the screen, placed in a U configuration. Check it out in-store if you are not certain, bet you'll buy one!

Sony BRAVIA V-Series KDL-52V5100 52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV, Black Review

I've had this tv for 3 months and I like it a lot. This is a big upgrade from the 27" tube tv it replaces. If you watch any amount of tv and still have an old, small tube tv, a new HD tv will improve your experience in a big way.

This TV: After much research, deliberation, and a number of showroom visits, I decided on this TV. I purchased from another vendor for a bit lower cost, but I did so reluctantly because I have had very good luck with Amazon. The TV showed up well-packaged an in good condition. Set up is easy.

I selected this TV because it is in a bright room with many windows. LCDs are better than plasma for such conditions, I've been told. Also, this Sony has a less glossy screen than other worthy competitors, like Samsung. You can test this by going to a showroom and looking for glare from the store lights on the screens. This TV has worked well in bright conditions.

The picture quality is very good. There are adequate inputs, we have an HD cable DVR, a Sony blue ray player, and an xbox 360, all connected with hdmi (there are 4 hdmi inputs), and a Wii. There is a standard connection for your pc, if the pc doesn't have an hdmi port.

Network / Internet devices: I found that I could view video and pictures stored on my Windows XP PC on the TV using the xbox (connected to a Cisco wireless ethernet bridge, bought at Amazon, works great). To connect to a computer through the xbox, you will need a wired network or a wireless router with an ethernet bridge near the TV. The Blue Ray is a Sony BDP-N460, which connects to the internet and allows viewing of some free and some pay content, including movies, from a number of providers, including Amazon. It is pretty neat and gives choices for on-demand movies that seem less expensive than my cable provider offerings.

To connect multiple devices to the internet you can get a TrendNet ethernet switch at Amazon for , which will allow up to 4 internet connections from one cable or wireless bridge. I purchased inexepensive HDMI cables from Amazon, and they seem to work fine (you can pay a lot for cables, the -10 versions that I bought work well).

TV sound is OK. I ran an rca cable out to an old stereo and use that for movies when quality sound is desired (obviously a surround sound system would work as well).

Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase of the TV, and the other components that make the TV more functional. We live in an amazing era.

A Solid HDTV if you Like to Tweak - FiOS users beware!!! - Dr. Bonkers - New York, NJ
I received this HDTV as an Xmas gift to replace a 5 year old Sanyo tube-based HDTV that was going nutty (green tint to the picture suddenly).

Pros:
* The blur motion control, Bravia Sync, and input switching are great.
* The menus for calibration of the picture (if you have a THX calibration disk) are simply very easy.
* Watching Blu-Ray movies or playing PS-3 games on this are awe inspiring- incredible details, rich blacks, no motion glitches.
* Hooking a Nintendo Wii up to this TV via component cable was a nice surprise too in terms of picture quality and motion tracking.
* So many inputs, you will be hard pressed to fill them up.

Cons:
* The sound of the TV speakers requires you to have a separate receiver/speaker array system. The speakers are rather tinny sounding with no bass.
* The quality of this HDTV, like most on the market, requires that you learn how to calibrate the TV to THX or another standard. Otherwise, you are not getting all the quality that the TV is capable of.
* The HDMI input does not communicate well with the current Verizon FiOS Motorola HD QIP 71001 set top box. The picture flickers intermittently, goes to green screen, or goes to black depending upon the channel selected. Switching the set top box to feed this Sony using component cables solves the issue, but it is disappointing that neither Sony, Motorola, nor Verizon want to take ownership of this HDMI problem.

Overall, the picture quality of this TV blew away other 120 Hz LCD HDTV's both priced at this level & even ,000 more. To get a better picture, if you know how to calibrate an HDTV, you would have to spend several thousand dollars more. Even then, the amount you will spend versus perceptible picture quality improvement is not really worth the bang for the buck IMHO. I would recommend this TV with the above 3 caveats.

OK sound, great picture, great buy! - J. Proffit -
The picture quality is spectacular. The sound is kinda "meh" But typically if you're using a TV this size your using some kind of surround sound system of your own choosing - like myself. Which in turn makes it a 10/10 for me. A great buy, the colors are vibrant and the blacks are deep. Very nice with ZERO ghosting on the dark scenes. However, like others have stated, the standard def channels look poor but that is to be expected on an LCD this size. Someone mentioned some issues with a "popping" noise when changing channels using the HDMI or switching through the inputs. I have NOT experienced any issues like that or of any other nature with this model. A great buy indeed.

Great TV - N. Ayres - Atlanta, GA
Great picture and good sound quality. This is my first HDTV and it looks great with vivid and bright colors. HDTV takes it to the next level and I love Sony TVs. A great combination with my new TIVO HD - the only way to watch TV. Free shipping from Amazon gets it to the curb (or garage if you are lucky), you will need help getting it unpacked and in the house.
